The Foo Fighters triumphed at the biggest show of their lives at London’s Wembley Stadium last night (June 6).
Dave Grohl and co. treated the 86,000 sell-out crowd to a mammoth 21-song set which saw the front man almost get overwhelmed by the emotion of the occasion towards the end.
Support earlier in the evening came from Supergrass who warmed the crowd up with a racy set featuring the likes ‘Caught By The Fuzz’, ‘Alright’ and ‘Pumping On Your Stereo.’
For all their charm and plaudits for the crowd, they couldn’t compare to the all-consuming main event. At around ten to eight, the Foo Fighters took to their rotating stage and powered through set opener ‘Pretender.’
The huge walkway extended far beyond the stage stretched far out into the crowd, which Grohl used to prowl and jog round like the true rock legend he is.
The early pace of the set was frenetic with the band blasting out tracks like ‘’Times Like These’, ‘Learn To Fly’ and ‘This Is A Call’ with power and gusto.
Grohl was his usual chatty self, telling the faithful fans “I love you fucking assholes” and even praising Freddie Mercury and Queen’s performance at Wembley Stadium for Live Aid in the Eighties.
The pace slowed two thirds of the way through with the acoustic favourite ‘Marigold’ and ‘Skin and Bones’, before ‘Everlong’ upped the tempo in the lead up for the dramatic finale.
Featuring ‘Big Me’, ‘DOA’, ‘Generator’ and the final, astounding ‘Best Of You’, it was the encore that most of the 86,000 fans crammed into the stadium will have ringing through their heads all week.
